Welcome MR. Socky!

Here he is! The most wonderful sock stitch marker ever invented! I found him on the floor at my work (yes there are other knitters there) and knew he needed to be rescued! He is very lonely though...He had two leave his tiny, little family on on the other side of the border and misses them horribly! Extensive negotiations are underway to reunite Mr. Socky with his lovely wife Martha, gentle twin daughters, Kate and Ally and infant son, little Mikey! Hopefully this wonderful and courageous family can be together again!

starting off with a bang!

it all started out so very innocently. My plan was to start a new pair of socks. Just one pair out of the lovely yarn i got conned into purchasing at my LYS. They were gonna be pink and cute-see here? this picture? this is how it all started... as you can see i have it all planned out. One ball of fortissima sock yarn, my directions for some zippy little toe-up's based on Ann Budd's directions and my sock needle case just waiting to open up! Well, the best laid plans right? so how did this one picture of domestic bliss turn into what happened next? (what did happen next? well....a miserable mess happened next.) I should have know it was gonna be bad when the socks morphed into legwarmers for Abby (my nine year old daughter) and those particular legwarmers became the object of her disgust...evidently this particular nine year old, no matter how freezing their house is DO NOT WEAR LEGWARMERS, not even is their oh so loving mother begs and pleads and cries. Not even if she bribed said daughter with a trip to gamestop in exchange for one picture in the legwarmers ( and she refuses to give them back so i can ball them back up and turn them into a pair of socks. This makes me very suspicious that this she does indeed like the legwarmers and this is only her evil nine year old way of trying to make me crazy...but more on that later).
     So Now what, left to my own devises, am i supposed to do? I decided that there are too many people in my family walking around in store bought socks and i need to really get on top of that problem. My fix? Take all the sock yarn out of the stash and do some serious thinking!!! The results are below. (P.S. that is the last time i ever saw that gauge counter!)
I like this picture! mostly because it really doesn't tell the entire story and when you look at it its not too bad of a sock stash! It is however not very well staged and all i can tell you is that when i finished counting i realized that i had enough sock yarn to knit up 42 pairs of socks (eyes roll and head shakes...how this got so far beyond my control is cant remember...but the LYS owner did actually open up a charge account for me at the store...ohh this is soooo very bad) what is worse is that i just gifted a good size bag of sock yarn to knittygurl (who in my defense did just today help me score 2 skeins of malibrigo lace yarn! What a menace to society!) AND i am on a mission to purchase some new noro sock yarn and a skein or two ofsock yarn from Green Mountian Spinnery-Madness! that is all i can say! This is total Madness!
   So what is the new plan? well I did join the The Great Sock-Off over at ravelry, which will take care of 12 or so skeins! hey...its a start...

So...You think you have a problem???

I know that in the grand scheme of things having too much of a good thing cant really be all that bad for a person...I tell my self that every day. and you know what? i still keep on building up the stash. Now those among you who are not knitters will look at this picture and think that i have lost my ever loving mind...

    And who would disagree? no one in their right mind really needs this much yarn just hanging around! right?
Well truth be told that my mother collects Santa Clauses and she is only seen as quirky...not crazy. Even though her little tiny apartment is loaded down with Mr. Clause everyone is willing to indulge the habit because they "kinda" understand it?
But a ceramic Santa isn't gonna keep you warm at night (please! don't even go there!!!)
Lets face it! all this yarn is just something in the waiting! A beginning about to begin!  Its sweaters and socks and hats and who in their right mind would ever turn down a sweater? or socks? or a hat? Cuz that would be crazy! right? 
Well perhaps this one picture is not the whole story...you see this is only one part of the stash. The rest is scattered about the house in bags, baskets and boxes (I swear i did not do that on purpose) Now when i say scattered what i really mean is that the stash has really outgrown the house and we are running out of room to live. Its not funny, and the "others" in my house have had just about enough of the foolishness. I really don't understand what the problem is with them because i have taken great pains to arrange everything as attractively as possible! The fact that we had to move all the books out of the living room and into my sons room really didn't hurt him at all. I believe that it was my knitterly way of encouraging him to read more, expand his mind, gain knowledge!  
But those among you who are knitters will understand. You will look at my stash and know that it is not really all that big. There are bigger ones. Everyone knows that there are bigger ones. 
  

Oh! What the Heck! Here are more!

Alright! you have to understand that this all started with me needing to put the new yarn purchase away! When i realized that i had did'nt have a spot for the new yarn my day kinda spiraled out of control! ..
The soul searching began with the needles...its a mess and i have to do something about them! more needles and cats! did i tell you about the cats? there are 5 of them! They are all lazy and furry and big!

This is the corner i took over so I could have a permanant home for my swift and ball winder. So far not so good...the cats love to sleep there and it is an awsome place to flop yarn around

This is the corner of the living room! it has yarn too!

this is just a secret stash sopt. my needles are in there too. i hope no one notices the fancy sock yarn

 

This little sweetie used to be my sons toy holder-keeper thingie, now it hides the kitchen cotton. Actually i never hide kitchen cotton because everyone loves dishrags and i love to knit dishrags.
